Adams was one of seven siblings that grew up as a young child in the city of Castle Rock, Colorado. Adams was born when her father was working for the U.S. Military in Italy. In the mid-1990s she began dance and performing professionally through The Boulder Dinner Theatre and the Country Dinner Playhouse in Colorado. Following her move to Minnesota, she took part in a documentary mock-up on beauty contests called Drop Dead Gorgeous (1998). Her move into Los Angeles after making her debut on screen as an innocent, but unassuming contestant. She was married to the actor Tony Curtis from June 1951 through September 1962. She was also the mother of Kelly Curtis and Jamie Lee Curtis. She was in numerous acclaimed films over the following decade which included Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho (1960) as well as Living It Up (a Martin and Lewis-film from 1954).
